What is that smell?
For a while now, I have been wondering why my laundry room stinks. At first, I thought that a load of towels had soured in the washing machine. I rewashed them and dried them and they came out smelling fine, but the smell in the laundry room didn't get any better. It was a mystery and I can't tell you how many loads of laundry I re-washed thinking, it must be these, even though they weren't even washed or wet or anything when the smell started.

I had just about given up all hope of knowing what it was...I thought I might go and look behind and beside the washer and dryer and see if maybe some wet sock had gotten stuck and decided to mold or something like that.

Adam was sitting on the couch 2 nights ago and was smelling this sour smell and decided to go investigate. Well, he found it and I can only say that I wish that it had been a load of wet towels or a moldy sock.

We have a deep freezer in the storage room that is open to the laundry room. It had gotten unplugged and everything in the freezer was ....well.... nasty.

We are thinking it was about 3 weeks that it had been unplugged...there was about one pound of pork, 5 pounds of beef and some green beans in there...really, not much, but the meat was just rancid. We plugged it back in for the night so that the meat could freeze and stop dripping and it could be more easily unloaded. I did that yesterday and road to the dumpster with the windows all down for a nice breeze to help to get rid of the smell in the car. I then went to get some borax for helping with the smell and cleaning up the bottom of the freezer. Back at home, I got to pull the drain from the bottom of the freezer and using 2 cookie sheets, some towels, 2 pitchers, and a measuring cup, I defrosted the frozen nastiness from the bottom of the freezer and got all the gunk out. And, I didn't even make that big of a mess!

Now, the freezer looks clean, but still smells like something died in there. My goal for today is to get the borax out and wipe it all down with some cleaner of some sort. Then, I need to figure out how to get the smell out.

Our house was smelling pretty ripe last night. We opened all the windows and put fans in them to help move the nasty smelling air out and bring fresh air in. It will probably start to smell like that again today, so I am just going to leave the fans where they are.

I went to kiss my husband last night and he pulls away. I was teasing him, saying that he didn't smell so good either, and he said, "At least my stink is me....You smell like 3 week old, aged rotting meat!" How's that for sweet nothings in my ear?
